My resolutions for 2006
I am making several New Year’s resolutions for 2006. They pertain to family, fitness, school, work, and other areas. I’ve made resolutions before and have had mixed results, but this year will be different. I’m sure of it! (I think I’ve said that before, too.)
Anyway, two of my resolutions are about this blog. Here they are (in no particular order):
- I resolve to blog more. I’m aiming for every other day (on average, of course).
- I resolve to find an audience. Even a small one would be great.
So there you have it. We’ll see how I fare with those. Best wishes with your own resolutions (if you make any). Happy new year and good luck remembering the words to Auld Lang Syne tonight…

For its commitment to raising awareness and effecting change with respect to the most important issues facing Africa today, DATA: Debt AIDS Trade Africa is this week’s Website of the Week.
DATA’s agenda in a nutshell is the forgiveness of foreign debts for the world’s poorest countries, the availability of affordable drugs to fight AIDS, and the establishment of fair trade policies that allow African nations to compete in the global arena. Here are just a few sobering statistics from the site: Read more

My Christmas break is starting to wind down and I’ll be back at school in another week. So before I get caught up in all the excitement of winter quarter, I thought I should pause long enough to look back (briefly) on fall quarter. Here is a course-by-course summary of my first few months back in school: Read more

JibJab, the home of some of the funniest political cartoon movies we’ve ever seen, is this week’s Website of the Week. While they do take a lot of pot shots at the Bush administration, closer examination reveals that liberals such as Clinton, Gore, Kerry, and Edwards aren’t safe from their parodies either. The only person who seems to emerge relatively unscathed is John McCain who famously “goes both ways in DC” in the cartoon “Good To Be In DC” (my personal favorite).
Other classics include “This Land”, “Second Term”, “Big Box Mart”, and the newly released “2-0-5″. All of these are hilariously set to the tunes of popular American folk songs. So the next time you’re tired and stressed out and just need a good laugh, do what I do and watch a JibJab movie… or two… or three…
Sphere: Related ContentUrban Dictionary needs more cowbell
Have you ever wished there was a website that existed for the sole purpose of cataloging all of our weird slang? Well, guess what? You’re in luck. The Urban Dictionary does just that and is this week’s Website of the Week.
Despite the title of this post, the Urban Dictionary does in fact have more cowbell, a perfect example of the kind of pop culture inside jokes that make it a great website. Read more

I was so happy to see Alimadzi on the first page of Google results for Patrick Lee, but I may have jumped the gun. It appears I’ve been bumped back down to the second page. So it goes. Search engines are unpredictable beasts at best. I probably need some more inbound links (hint, hint)…

Back in an earlier post, I pointed out how this site is #1 on Google for the one-word query Alimadzi. This is obviously not very surprising, nor impressive at all.
However, I also mentioned my desire to be #1 on Google for Patrick Lee. Guess what? As of right now, I’m on the first page of results! Read more
Sphere: Related ContentThe Onion will make you cry…
…because you’ll be laughing so hard. Yes, The Onion is this week’s Website of the Week. Whenever I need a good laugh, I head over to The Onion, click the link that says “Skip This Ad” (arg), and then read a few wonderfully satirical articles. You’ll probably notice several articles that poke fun of conservatives, but if you dig a little deeper you’ll discover that nobody is safe from their wit. It’s not for everybody and is guaranteed to offend some people, but I like it enough to write about it here.
“What’s my favorite article so far?” you ask. Great question! That would be this one. If you know me well, you’ll understand why.
