Rumors of my _____ have been greatly exaggerated
Yes, it’s been more than three months since my last post, but rest assured that nothing horrible or strange has happened to me. No alien abduction, retrograde amnesia, or entry into the Witness Protection Program. Sorry to disappoint you all. I was hoping to be more dramatic.
To make a long story short, I have decided (after much deliberation) to withdraw from the linguistics Ph.D. program at Ohio State. This was definitely not an easy decision and there were many factors involved, but I’m confident it’s the right choice going forward. I still plan to dabble in computational linguistics, but probably just as a hobby or diversion.
On the bright side, I’ve been rehired full-time as a programmer for Deer Valley Unified School District in Phoenix and I can work remotely from here. My two main goals right now are to continue gaining knowledge and experience in the “web world” and to plan a move back home to Seattle within the next year or so. There are other minor goals and objectives, but they’re not too important at the moment so I’ll talk about them at a later time.
It’s good to be back. Posts should be much more regular from now on… as long as the new Metamucil plugin for WordPress actually works.
