Amazon an online jungle of good ideas
Everyone has probably browsed it at least once and many people shop there now and then also. Yes, this week’s Website of the Week is none other than Amazon.com.
I love Amazon for a number of reasons. It was one of the pioneers of e-commerce and has been on web developers’ radar screens ever since. This is due in part to its tremendous size and influence, but also to its ongoing innovation. Quite honestly, I have never seen better CRM (customer relationship management) from a website. Amazon is always coming to me with the following:
- Want to see inside this book?
- Would you like to listen to snippets from this CD?
- I have recommendations for you.
- Here’s what other people like you bought recently.
- Want to add this to a wish list?
- Would you like to tell everyone you know about your new wish list?
And the list goes on. They’ve also been experimenting with some Ajax functionality recently. Check out the Create Your Own Ring feature. Pretty nifty, eh?
Out of everything, though, I’d have to say my favorite feature is Wish Lists. Here’s a (not-so) random Wish List. Heh heh…

Nice wish list, I love reading books if I can learn something from them. I am currently a quarter of the way into AppleScript. It’s hard to think if any other shopping website would become more popular than amazon. I know that buy.com tries to compete, but they don’t offer all of the features like you mentoned above.
Hey, just noticed something. If you click Preview to preview your post, it doesn’t strip the slashes off of quotes. Now you have to fix it because I know it’s going to bug you.
