Journey’s end… sort of
Well, we arrived safely in beautiful Port Orchard, WA, a week ago and we’re still getting settled in. We finally unloaded our moving trailer yesterday, so our previously empty apartment is now jam-packed with boxes. I guess that’s an improvement.
The 2500-mile van trip was not without its trying moments. Our dog was attacked by our neighbor’s usually docile dog and had to go to the vet. Don’t worry… Stanley is just fine. Then I was robbed at knifepoint in a motel parking lot in Illinois, but managed to distract the (very large and menacing) guy long enough to give him a nice shove and run to call the police. They caught him a few minutes later. My advice: don’t load your vehicle alone at 3:00 AM in a motel parking lot. Lesson learned.
In general, though, we enjoyed the drive and got to see some new parts of the country like Nebraska and southern Wyoming. Actually, come to think of it, once you’ve seen a few miles of either, you’ve pretty much seen it all. Oh well, the important part is that we survived and are now back in our home state… for good (or at least for quite a while).
I’ll try to get back into a regular blogging routine because there are quite a few things I’d like to mention and discuss. I’ve just been swamped with traveling, unpacking, and work for the past two weeks. First things first…
