Northwest Ski Map launched

Well, we met our deadline yesterday and launched (drum roll…) the new Northwest Ski Map.  It was a fun project using an external data feed of 28 resorts from the Idaho Ski Areas Association, the Google Maps API, and the Zend Framework.  It came together rather quickly, but I think it turned out pretty well.  Now I just need to get out there and do some skiing myself.

You can definitely count on some more mapping projects in the future.  We’re just scratching the surface at this point.

    Howdy, I’m the team lead here at Zend for Zend Framework. I’m glad to see it did the job for this app. I’m also glad to see that someone’s using it in my home state (I’m from Twin Falls) for a paper I’ve been known to read from time to time. :)

    Hi Wil,
    Great to hear from you. And I’m happy to hear you’re a Statesman reader (at least from time to time).

    I’m really impressed with the Zend Framework so far and looking forward to version 1.5. I enjoyed your DevZone article about upcoming ZF command line tools. Actually I’m still chuckling about Rails and the desire for a “shorter TTHW”.

    I’ll have more ZF projects in the works later this year. Stay tuned and thanks for your work on the framework. Maybe I’ll drop by the mailing lists if I can ever find the time.

    Thanks for the compliment. I wish I had to travel to all those resorts, but alas Google’s geocoding service and a few hand corrections got me all the coordinates I needed.

    Coffee? Yes, absolutely! I’ll have to check out Idaho Roasting some time.

    Very cool if you were the guy that put that together. As a recent transport from the NW I wanted to keep up with what was going on. Typed in NW Ski Map and found this.
