Present

Patrick Lee is a full-time Web developer for The Idaho Statesman newspaper in Boise, Idaho. Patrick hopes to keep up with his blog, but he can’t make any promises. During his off hours, he enjoys reading, playing sports, spending time with his family, and talking about himself in the third person. Patrick is happily married to his beautiful wife, Karin. They have a four-year-old son named Nathan and an infant son named Brian.

Past

Patrick was born on Christmas Eve in Elk Grove Village, IL. He grew up in Yakima, WA, and graduated from Eisenhower High School. Patrick was, and still is, an incurable geek (though his wife prefers the term “dork”). He did his undergraduate work at the University of Washington in Seattle, WA, and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in math.

After graduation, Patrick lived and worked for two years at a boys’ high school in Balaka, Malawi, as a Peace Corps Volunteer. He taught math and science, coached basketball, got schooled in soccer, learned Chichewa, ate a lot of interesting food (yes, including bugs), listened to the music, and generally immersed himself in the culture of Malawi.

After returning to the States, Patrick continued to teach high school and college math in Yakima, Philadelphia, and Phoenix before switching to the IT field. So far, he has spent about four years learning web development, programming, and database design. In spite of this, he still feels like “young grasshopper”.

Future

Patrick plans to continue keeping up with the ever-changing world of web development (a lot like trying to drink from a fire hose). He also has delusions of grandeur and believes that one day he will write computer books and be a featured speaker at really geeky conferences. One can dream, I suppose. Patrick is also hoping to return to Africa now and then as part of his work and research.
